Colorful sky

Last weekend we went to the balloon festival here in north Texas and it was a beautiful event with hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes and colors flying up in the sky. It’s amazing how we have started to track down fun family events in the town, it’s true life changes after kids…and it’s all good. I would estimate that there were more than 15 thousand people gathering, to watch the ballons go up and up in the sky. I had never seen so many people gathering at the same place at the same time except on TV.

The event started with some teams of people sky diving, then the F-16s zoomed past our heads. After the airshow the balloons started to fly one by one, boasting its vibrant colors and beautiful patterns. They indeed looked amazing against the spotless blue back drop of the sky. We waved at the rainbow colored balloons, took pictures of them as they floated gracefully past us.

As the night set in, the balloons were inflated to glow. They lit of the dark sky and the sight was breathtaking as all the balloons glowed together with the count down of…..10, 9,8,….1. It was pretty neat how the quiet  park in any other given day seemed like a different place, lively with the drums of the music and the color in the sky. Finally, the event ended with a spectacular display of fireworks and I had not seen any fireworks from so close, not even the July 4th fireworks.

I am glad that we stuck to our plans of going to this event and I am more happy and satisfied that my little one enjoyed the event to her fullest.

Did you know?

In 1978, Albuquerque balloonists Ben Abruzzo and Maxie Anderson, along with partner Larry Newman, made history when they completed the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by gas balloon.
